Understanding MTSS

Education is a crucial aspect of every individual's growth and development, and it is the education system's responsibility to ensure that every student has access to the necessary support they need to succeed in their academic journey. Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is one approach that caters to students needing additional help to meet their academic and behavioral needs. But who is eligible for this support, and how does it differ from Special Education and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)? We will explore MTSS and its importance in the education system.

MTSS is an evidence-based framework that provides a comprehensive support system for students struggling academically or behaviorally. It encompasses a range of evidence-based interventions and strategies, such as differentiated instruction, small group instruction, and targeted support to help students succeed. This system is implemented in multiple tiers, and it is available to all students.

Who is eligible for MTSS? MTSS is designed to provide support to all students, including those who may be at risk of academic or behavioral failure. Typically, there are three tiers of support in MTSS, and the support increases in intensity as the student moves up the tiers. Tier 1 includes universal support for all students, and it is designed to meet the needs of most students.
